Finding the perfect trail [spec work]

I made my favorite hiking app even better by simplifying the search process with a new “Trip Planner feature” that improves accessibility and usability for novice and experienced hikers alike.

Bite-sized UX samples

Intrigued by the nascent field of UX writing, I set out to learn everything I could about it in my spare time. Here are a few samples I made as a part of the Daily UX Writing Challenge.

A serious editor

I have edited more than 200 reports on Mexican and Latin American policy and security for Fortune 100 clients operating in those regions. I took initiative to design templates for these products in both Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Word, ensuring timely delivery and crisp presentation.

Big changes

I researched and authored a series of analytical reports charting the evolution of the Democratic Party platform throughout the 2020 primary and general elections as well as forecasting the likely policy outcomes in the areas of healthcare, higher education, and climate change to allow stakeholders to prepare for a tidal shift in Washington.

Delivering for clients

I dove into copywriting to help get a friend’s yoga and wellness startup off the ground. Using SEO best practices, I crafted blog posts and website copy that outfoxed Google’s algorithms.

Redesigning the user experience

I collaborated with Illumina’s executives, engineers, and web designer to re-imagine the company’s online presence.

Improving the LA transit experience [spec work]

All Angelenos can agree that the TAP app’s UI leaves much to be desired. I tweaked its text to create a more seamless and useful user experience.

Protecting the vote

I spearheaded a collaborative campaign with a voting & elections nonprofit advocacy group to identify and address voting difficulty and suppression during the 2020 United States general election. Through this partnership, we helped Common Cause detect threats at polling places and counter disinformation narratives.

Nothing too serious

I’m a lot of fun outside of work and I can prove it. In the fall of 2020 I co-founded an LA-based satire website called LAish, which follows my tenure as Editor-in-Chief of UCLA’s satire publication The Westwood Enabler. This is “fake news” done properly.

Putting that history minor to use

One of my favorite assignments was researching and writing a blog about the history of Montgomery County, Maryland for the county’s genealogical society. I can’t believe they paid me to do something so fun!

Finger on the pulse

I helped build LUX Voter Watch 2022, Illumina’s candidate and issue tracking product based on social media activity.
